The Home Behind Plum Residence

A small, intentional home in Sha Tin built on the belief that the later years of life deserve warmth, dignity, and the ordinary pleasures of a well-kept household.

Our Story

Plum Residence came into being quietly, the way most lasting things do. The founders โ€” a family with roots in the Sha Tin area โ€” had spent several years searching for a residential home for an elderly relative that felt genuinely domestic. Most of what they found was either clinical in atmosphere or impersonal in scale. They wanted something else entirely: a home where an older adult would wake to familiar smells, eat at a proper table, and have someone nearby who knew their preferences.

The house at 25 Tai Wai Road was chosen for its proportions and its garden. It was the kind of building that had always been a family dwelling, and refurbishing it was a matter of preserving that quality rather than overriding it. Wooden furnishings were selected for warmth. Rooms were kept private and unhurried in feel. The communal lounge was arranged so that reading, quiet conversation, and simply sitting with a cup of tea all felt equally natural.

Plum Residence opened its doors in 2019. Since then, the home has grown gradually and deliberately โ€” never beyond the size that allows each resident to be known by name, by habit, and by preference. This is the scale we believe in.

Our Mission

To offer older adults a place of genuine rest โ€” not simply care in the clinical sense, but the kind of belonging that comes from having a home. Every decision at Plum Residence, from the food on the table to the pace of the day, is made with this in mind.

Our Values

Dignity in Daily Life

Routines, choices, and the small details of each day are respected as belonging to the resident โ€” not managed for convenience.

Domestic Warmth

We maintain the atmosphere of a home โ€” not a facility. Meals are prepared fresh, spaces are kept welcoming, and the pace is unhurried.

Knowing Each Person

We keep our home small deliberately. Every member of staff knows every resident โ€” their routines, their preferences, their family, their stories.

Gentleness as a Standard

In how we speak, how we structure the day, and how we handle difficulties โ€” gentleness is not a manner but a method.

The People of Plum Residence

Our small, dedicated team shares a long-held belief that older people deserve a home, not just a room.

All areas of the home are maintained to high safety standards. Emergency protocols are in place, and staff are trained to respond calmly and promptly.

Fresh, Nutritious Meals

Three meals are prepared fresh daily. Dietary preferences and needs are noted for each resident, and seasonal ingredients are favoured where possible.

Housekeeping Standards

Private rooms and communal areas are cleaned regularly. Laundry is handled with care and returned promptly. Residents' personal spaces are always respected.

Privacy & Confidentiality

Resident information is handled discreetly and shared only with family members and relevant parties as appropriate. We follow Hong Kong data privacy guidelines.

Staff Continuity

We maintain a consistent team so that residents always see familiar faces. Low staff turnover contributes directly to the sense of home and trust.

Family Communication

Families are kept informed through regular updates and are always welcome to visit. Concerns and questions are addressed openly and without delay.

Residential Care in Sha Tin, New Territories

Plum Residence occupies a particular space in Hong Kong's residential care landscape โ€” a home-style arrangement for older adults who do not require nursing or medical services but would benefit deeply from daily structure, companionship, and the comfort of having meals, housekeeping, and pleasant activities arranged with care. The location in Sha Tin, close to green spaces and well-connected by public transport, makes it accessible for family visits while offering a quieter setting than the urban core.

For families navigating the question of eldercare in Hong Kong, the choice between a large-scale facility and a home-like arrangement is meaningful. Plum Residence was established to offer the latter โ€” a setting where the older adult remains a person with preferences and a daily life, not a patient to be managed. The size of the home is deliberately small, which shapes everything: the food, the pace, the relationships, and the feel of each day.

Enquiries are welcomed from families across Hong Kong. We are happy to arrange a visit, share more about how daily life is structured, or talk through whether Plum Residence might be a fitting place for someone you care about.

Come and See the Home

A visit is always the best way to get a sense of a place. We welcome families to walk through at a time that suits them.
